Kernel - Half Brick - Simcoe 30L Kegstar

Half Brick (our smaller version of London Brick – Red Rye Ale) is a seasonal beer brewed with rye.

The nose and first sip hit with a pretty specific tasting note: marmalade on lightly burnt hot crossed buns. Adding to the holiday flavours some Christmas-y spices float over the top. Instead of the sometimes dramatic or intense flavours we expect from rye, there is a little more nuance here. Some piney, american ale notes dominate, mixed with a gentle herbal spice and distant hints of oat biscuits.

Those tasting notes might seem to suggest an incredibly complex beer, but they all present delicately and there is a creamy, soft and refined subtleness to the final product.
